Brunswick Manhattan American Pool Table
If you’re looking for a contemporary pool table, they don’t come much more contemporary than Brunswick Billiard’s Manhattan…
Brunswick’s top of the range home billiard table stands proud on six (very heavy) brushed stainless steel legs that are each attached to a 1-3/4″ thick hardwood sub-frame. What this means is that the Manhattan is more than able to take the weight of a full 1″ thick, Certified slate bed, plus the added weight of the top grade maple cushions and aprons without sagging.
Of course, what this means in playing terms is the fact that this table will play just like any other Brunswick billiard table – with total precision and accuracy!
As part of Brunswick’s ‘Mainline’ series of pool tables, the Manhattan benefits from SuperSpeed cushion rubbers. These are crafted from Brunswick’s proprietary formulation of rubber. It’s this special formula that makes SuperSpeed cushions the most accurate available (as tested by the University of Wisconsin in an independent test), and requested for more professional tournaments than any other.
So what’s the playability…You’d expect a table of this type to play like a tournament table, and you would not be disappointed. The extra wide solid maple rails give an ‘extra’ bounce to the ball (a bit like steel block rails on a snooker table). The added advantage of the heavy sub-frame means the slates are more than adequately supported. In a recent test, and when coupled with Brunswick Centennial pro-worsted pool table cloth, the Manhattan played as true as any table we’ve played on!
Of course there’s no point in purchasing a top of the line pool table, and then getting inadequate accessories, so here’s our recommended ‘package’…
- Centennial Cloth - is Brunswick’s own professional quality pool table cloth. It’s made from worsted wool (the type that you’d find in a high quality suit), which means that it remains flatter and more accurate. Even though Centennial is heavier than regular ‘Home’ quality cloth, it plays faster due to the flatness of the worsted yarn. Centennial pool table cloth is also Teflon® coated, which means that it lasts longer and looks better.
- Centennial Play Pack - is packed with the highest quality and best performing accessories from Brunswick. The set includes four Centennial pool cues with a special joint, shaft taper and tip that do a pretty good job of eliminating cue ball deflection, making long pots far easier. Also included is a set of Brunswick Centennial pool balls. These are produced for Brunswick by Saluc, the company behind Aramith® branded balls. Made from phenolic resin, Centennial balls are as accurate as is currently possible! You also get a rest, chalk, maple triangle rack and diamond and a brush. You also get a DVD featuring Ladies Pro Player, Ewa Lawrence who explains how to look after your table and how to play.
In summary, the Manhattan more than lives up to its billing. It plays as well as any pool table, and looks like no other. If you want a showpiece to amaze friends and family, you won’t find anything better..!
