Why a Brunswick?

The Frame

This is the foundation of the table and the component that many manufacturers skimp on. Remember the frame is not only subject to hard knocks but it must also cope with up to 330kgs of weight from the slate, so its really important for you to understand its construction so you can choose a table that can cope with such stresses.As you would expect the thicker the timber pieces in the frame the stronger the structure. But think about it… it doesn’t matter how thick the timber is if it isn’t joined together correctly, does it? That’s why Brunswick pioneered a number of additional techniques to strengthen your table, so you can enjoy playing on it without worrying about the odd knock or bump.To start with all the supports are made from galvanised steel. Here are the reasons…

• Steel provides maximum stability (wood or plywood is subject to environmental changes, which can cause cracking and failure)
• Steel can endure table loads of 600lbs of slate without failing
• Steel holds the torque of the fastenings which means they cannot loosen with time.

And that’s not all…Individual component are joined together by machined nuts and bolts, never ever screws. This means…

• They cannot loosen or twist in their mountings
• They add even more stability to your table
• And it means the table can be disassembled and reassembled perfectly by our trained installers every time. So if you need to move it its relatively easy. This is also another reason why its resale value remains so high!

The Slate

The most important criteria for slate is that it is absolutely flat…fairly obvious actually. However what appears flat to the human eye, or even a DIY spirit level, may be way out to a billiard ball! And when you consider that the movement of the balls on the table is actually the core of the game then true movement is critical to your enjoyment of the game. The first thing to note is that all good pool tables come with three pieces of slate rather than one. That’s because three pieces make it easier to level the table. If you think about it, it makes complete sense…No floor is completely level so the frame will have been adjusted to take this into account…for example, one side or corner may be a few millimetres higher than another. That means a one piece will never sit flush all around. Slate is flexible so three pieces can be adjusted for true flatness. Of course having three pieces mean that where they join must also be perfect. Brunswick use special liquid dowels to achieve this.

Brunswick slate must pass rigid quality requirements before it receives a “Brunswick Certified” sticker. Brunswick slate is diamond-honed, precision-machined and leveled to within 0.254mm. Brunswick slate is cured for an extended period of time to assure stability, and is checked for flatness on the top and bottom at least four times through the machining and curing process to a standard twice exceeding BCA specifications on an end-to-end basis. Every set of Brunswick slate is quality inspected and certified, and will provide a lifetime of playability. This is the exact same slate that Brunswick use for their Pro-Billiard events such as the Mosconi Cup or World Pool Masters and just one of the reasons why more professional pool players insist on Brunswick tables.
