It’s strange isnt it… we’re supposed to be living in a world where machines can do almost all the things that we had to do for us. ‘They’ invented the computer to make our lives easier, but instead we spend our lives learning how to use the latest software package, inputting information, trying to hit even greater targets because the software has made us too efficient, etc…etc…

If you want to make something of your career and you work in the UK or the US, then the chances are that you’ll be working way in excess of the 40 hours that we all signed up for, but you know it will be worth it one day…won’t it?

Chances are it will, but you know we don’t have to suffer all the time, and put our famillies on hold. YOu know all that stress that builds up talking with numpties all day long? Well here’s a great way of getting rid of all that pent up emotion…

Smack-up a few pool balls on your brand new billiard table!

If you’re anything like me, you can feel the stress draining away already, just by invisaging the faces on those balls as they get absolutely hammered. It’s great isn’t it? But you know what…you know that attitude your teenage son has? Let him have a go and see how it works for him too, which not only makes him happier (well at least as happy as you can be as a teenager…) but it makes you happier because you’re not fighting and it makes your wife happier too because everyone is getting on – how good is that!

But it doesn’t end there – if you have kids either older or younger than teenagers (sorry even billiard tables have their limits!), then play a game or four of pool with them. The younger kids will have a great time just smacking the balls around and any older children will appreciate the time to ‘re-bond’ with dad. We hear a lot about quality family time, and this is a seriously pain free way of accomplishing it.

Did you also know that pool is a great, fun way of teaching maths and physics? Just think about it…you know when you play that bank shot? Well you need an understanding of geometry to know where the ball is going to end up. If you’ve ever watched the Hustler, you’ll appreciate Straight Pool and the ability to add up and take away. Factor in angles, speed, impact and goodness knows whatelse, you can really help kids struggling with or simply just wanting to know more about the sciences.

But hey… If you are a high-flying executive, just remember that golf is old-hat now, every senior exec has had the sales guy skillfully lose a round of golf – it’s just too obvious. There are very few that get the chance of real hospitality at your home with your wife’s cooking and the warmth of your family…oh and of course the game of pool to round the night off talking business. And by the way – it is far easier to lose at pool and make it look good than golf!
